Reaching our 40th birthday is a real achievement for JORVIK Viking Centre, an independently run museum owned and operated by York Archaeology – the same organisation which discovered the remains of the Viking city when developers were excavating the space now occupied by the Coppergate Centre.

This anniversary logo features a brand new illustration of Viking king, Erik Bloodaxe, who ruled the kingdom of Northumbria from his base in York. His face sits within the 40, helping us celebrate 40 years of making people go ‘wow’ as they step back in time during a visit to the sights, sounds and smells of the 10th century.
