Roman Elephant

Elephants were often featured in Roman times. Claudius is said to have paraded to Colchester with a procession of elephants as he began the conquest of Britain. Elephants were also used in the amphitheatre, as were many other exotic animals. Our Roman Elephant is based on a Roman original. Just as today, animals were often the subject of art.

The sculpure is just one of a range of beautiful ‘Miniature Bronzes’ dating from early Egyptian, through to the late European era.

The Roman Elephant is bronze plated and supplied in a clear acetate box with an historical information card.
